About the USDZ format

USDZ is Apple's augmented-reality format, based on Pixar's Universal Scene Description. It's mostly used for AR on iPhone/iPad (Quick Look), product pages with view-in-your-space, iOS/visionOS, and it stores a complete USD scene with geometry, PBR materials and textures in an uncompressed ZIP.

Frequently asked questions

How do I view the USDZ on my iPhone?

Send it via AirDrop, email or host it on a web page: iOS opens it with Quick Look, and a tap on the AR icon places it in your real space through the camera. No app needed — it's built into the system since iOS 12.

Why convert to USDZ instead of using GLB?

Android and the web use GLB for AR, but Apple's ecosystem requires USDZ for Quick Look. If your audience uses iPhones you need both: GLB for the web and USDZ for tap-to-AR on iOS.

What real size will my part have in AR?

USD works in centimeters and the conversion respects the scene's units. A model designed in millimeters (a print STL) can appear 10× smaller or larger in AR — adjust the scale first with the transform tool if needed.
